Therapeutic Recommendations

Digestion - As you can tell from all of this information, and especially from the description of how your thyroid gland works, it is extremely clear that your body must be able to adequately digest proteins as well as fats. Without proper protein digestion there will not be enough blood proteins to carry your T4 or T3. Nor will there be tyrosine to make your thyroid hormones. Interestingly, iodide is carried from your digestive tract to your thyroid gland attached to fat molecules. If you do not adequately digest fats, there may not be enough iodide transported to your thyroid for it to produce sufficient amounts of organic iodine to make T4 or T3. Some of the best ways to improve digestion are our general dietary recommendations, supplemental digestive enzymes (call our office if you need these: Local: 541-265-5132 or Toll Free: 855-362-5355), juicing and sprouting.

Exercise Therapy Regular exercise (at least 2 to 4 times per week), in moderation, is well documented for reducing stress, improving Immune System function, and improving metabolism. The best forms of moderate exercise would be walking (including treadmills), swimming (especially water aerobics), yoga, tai chi, chi gong, bicycling (including stationary bikes), mini-trampolines, Pilates, and our body weight exercises.

Food and Environmental Allergy Identification and Avoidance Food and environmental allergies severely stress your liver. One of the major functions of your liver is detoxification. If it becomes overloaded, your liver is less able to handle other functions such as the conversion of T4 to T3. Food allergies can be accurately identified and monitored with an elimination diet and the Dr. Coca Pulse Testing section under Thyroid Testing.

Elimination of Heavy Metal Contamination Find a dentist who understands the importance of NOT using silver mercury amalgam fillings. If you have mercury amalgam fillings, strongly consider having them replaced with nontoxic materials. Mercury and other heavy metals are a major stress on your liver, all your glands, your nervous system, and your immune system. There are specific techniques and procedures for this work to be done safely and correctly. Select your dentist after careful checking and questioning.
