I received your email adress from Dr. Camp and I wanted to know if you could please help me with my Hypothyroid Issues and I Desperately need your help PLEASE! I would like to give you some of my background first. I'm pretty much a healthy 44 year old female who recently started going through all these changes this year. I went to the doctor on Aug. 25 blood test were done and concluded that my TSH was 17.570 very high, my FT4 was 0.717 low and my cholesterol was slightly elevated to 222 and my LDL Cholesterol Direct was 150. Then on 8/31 my TSH was drawn again from a different lab but my results were 8.95 still high then two weeks later on my follow-up appt at my doctor who drew the first lab my TSH then was 9.0 On Aug 29 i had an thyroid ultrasound done that revealed I had a small solid mildly hypoechoic nodule on the right lobe that measures 0.38 x 0.51 x 0.62cm and the Isthmus is normal. The left lobes has irregular exchotexture with no left thyroid nodules. Then on Sept 6 I had a thyrod scan & uptake I-123 conducted that revealed increased activity in the inferior right thyroid lobe with increased RAIU (48.%). No cold nodules were found. She said my nodule is a hot nodule so she feels it's not cancerous but we will watch it over the 6 months to see if it grows. My endocrinologist said I should have never taken the radioidione test because I have hypothyroid and she knew this test would have stated what it stated but my primary care doctor said I needed the test. The endocrinologist placed me on 50mcg of Synthroid and I truly did not want to start it but I did start taking 25mcg on the 16th of September. Since starting the Synthroid I have already gained 5 pounds. I need help. I don't over-eat at all. Now on Sept 25th I have started 50mcg of Synthroid. I wanted a natural approach but I've been told from the doctors here in FT. Knox & Louisville KY that the alternative approach does not work. It can only cause you long-term problems and possibly death because these practices are not FDA regulated and Synthroid is the only way to help with this problem. Like I said I have gained 5 pounds already and feel bloated badly that's why I went ahead and started the 50mcg.
My TSH today 9/27/2011 - was 8.23(High), FT4 was 1.070, HDL Direct 63 Low normal range is 66, LDL Direct was 130 High normal range is (129). My Previous Test on 9/12/2011 - was 9.460 (High), FT4 was 0.855 low, Thyroglobul AB was 1:40 THY MICRO AB - 1:6400 Thyroglobulin Antibody Normal TA = <1:160 Microsomal Antibody Normal - <1:1600 Please pay close attention to the dates that are listed above. Also, I did start on Synthroid 25mcg on September 16, 2011 and I raised my dose on September 25, 2011 to 50mcg once a day. I'm 44 years old and weight 152 pounds. What are your recommendations for medical treatment moving forward?
I'm miserable and don't know whatelse to do. I don't have much money as we are a military family but I'm willing to pay what I can to get my health back. Can you now tell me based on the whole picture what I should do? Please I need my life back without becoming a very over weight person in the process. If you would like I can be reached on 803-348-8150 or 502-799-0000. Thank you so much!
PS# Do you think that I need my Adrenal Glands checked? My doctor says that I have chronic thyroiditis with Hashimotos. My TPO Antibodies were 1000. So, what is attacking my autoimmune system is what I need to know.
Thanks for your time.
