False smell of alcohol breath

Hello Stephanie,
It is possible your mother's doctor is perceiving an excess of ketones as an alcohol smell. Ketones are not bad unless you are a Type I diabetic.
Knowing this her doctor will run tests to determine how well her pancreas is functioning in its job of helping her body handle blood sugar.
