cough and itchness

  1. 7 years ago

Hello, I am new to your sight, and like what I have seen. I have a four year old son. In October four of us in our family came down with the H1N1 flu. My son was the worst - six days of high fevers and horrible cough, and other lesser sympoms. Since that time I think his immune system has struggled to strengthen. He has had four colds, and they have all lasted a week or more. Through out this time he has a constant dry hacking cough (different from the one from the flu), AND he just can't keep his hands off his nose and mouth (I know how he gets sick) - they are itchy. By the end of the day his cheeks are beat red from rubbing his nose (with his sleeve). With this rubbing, itchiness, once in a while he will get hyper restless - can't sit still, jumps, runs, is loud and just can't seem to control himself. This these hyperness episodes happen almose daily. The itching is everyday - mostly, but not only, in the afternoons and terrible by evenings. The cough is night and day, up or down. He has been off dairy for weeks, which he misses so much, we continue echinacea and elderberry, bifidobacterium lactis for the past month twice daily, and his chiropractor recently recomended nasal spray with Sovereign Silver in it several times a day after his regular doctor said he had a sinus infection. The lining of his nose was and still is very red and irritated - she said it didn't look like a alergy looking nose, more infection. I have not started the antibiotic, and hoping I can find a way not to.

Thank you for any insight or direction you can help you can give me.

    Hello Renee,

We have found the best thing to eliminate resistant coughs is beta carotene. The 25,000 i.u. capsules are very small and easy for young people to swallow. I would suggest 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening. You should see results within a week (two at the latest). Once the cough has stopped, continue the same dosage for at least another week or two then taper off to 1 a day for 3 or 4 days before stopping.

The best thing we've found for sinus infections are bioflavonoids. Try to have your son take at least 50 mg. of bioflavonoids 3 or 4 times a day. This can be part of a vitamin C (ester C) complex.

If it hasn't been done already, have your chiropractor test him for candida.

    Best of Health,

    Doc Kelley

  3. Thank you so much. I have never tried this or seen the small tablets, but I will look. And I do agree you are going the right direction, because in the past we have used a product from Enzamatic Therapy for the immune system and the first ingredient was beta carotene. I will look for something stronger. I think his C has bioflavonoids, but not nearly enough. Candida is always on the back of my mind. We had some major issues with it when he was an infant. In fact, as I mentioned that was one the first things I got him back on was the probiotics twice a day. Thank you for your insight. I really appreciate it, and I will see what I can find. Thanks, Renee
