    Hello Sally,

The quick and easy answer to your question is no. The rest of the answer, however, is that your friend should consult with the prescribing doctor as soon as possible and let him/her know of this reaction.

The doctor will determine is this is a result of the prednizone. If it is, the medication will be stopped and, if necessary, your friend can receive treatment to elimate the hives.

  3. does anyone know if prednizone has an adverse affect on the heart. I have been on the prescription for 1 week and I have tightness in my chest and murmers. I quit taking it a few days ago but the symptoms are still there.

    Hello Rick,

Call the physician who prescribed prednizone for you and let him/her know of your symptoms as soon as possible. Tightness in your chest and murmers persisting for "a few days" are not symptoms to be taken lightly or ignored.

Then you can do an Internet search for "Prednizone" and check all the lists of side effects and contraindications.

  7. Our son has Panniculitis and the doctor has put him on Predizone. Are there any side effects from this medicine?

    Hello Sylvia,

As you know panniculitis is an inflammatory disease of the subcutaneous (under the skin) fat layer. It must be determined whether it coexists with or without systemic (throughout the body) disease.

Prednisone is a corticosteroid used to treat inflammatory symptoms. There are more side effects from prednisone use than can be listed here.

Please enter the word "prednisone" into any Internet search engine such as Google and you will find many, many sites listing the side effects and contraindications of prednisone use.

  9. Can you tell me what prednizone is for concerning clogged nasal passages and congestion and fever? Also, do you know what the natural equivalent would be so I could buy it at the health food store? It did open my nasal passages and let me breath, but when I got off of it, I got sores in my nose. Please help. Thanks.

    Hello Marty,

Fever, congestion and swelling are signs of inflammation. Prednizone is a prescriptive anti-inflammatory drug used to alleviate the symptoms of inflammation.

The best natural anti-inflammatory products are vitamin C complex (Ester-C), vitamin A and/or beta-carotene and enzymes. These will NOT work as fast as prescriptive anti-inflammatories, but they will help your body's immune system fight the cause(s) of your inflammation.

For a much more complete list of natural anti-inflammatories do an Internet search with the key words "natural anti-inflammatories". You'll find lots of herbs, vitamins, foods and other suggestions.
